VIEWS OF EARTH: Formation of our Planet Theories

There are many theories that are designed to explain the phenomenon of how EARTH was formed.  Not all of these theories have the same support from the scientific community.  Please research various of these theories, select one and in two concise paragraphs describe and explain why you selected this theory as one of your favorite.  Present evidence and the resource (references) where you obtained the information.

Here is a great resource:  HOW WAS EARTH FORMED VIDEO CLIP (PRESS THIS LINK)

  1. One of the these theories are the big bang theory was when they said the observation that other planets are said to have moved away from earth.

  2. This is Brian, from 7-731, and my favorite theory about how the Earth formed was the supernova. The supernova was when the result of a star exploding . As a result, there was gas left, and that gas condensed. Once condensed, the remaining gases would be driven away.
The reason I chose the supernova as my favorite theory is because of the star. Star's are very beautiful. They light up the sky, are made of dangerous gases that can be very hot, and are in different colors. Then it explodes, and it looks even more beautiful. If I were to witness a star exploding first hand, it would be the most beautiful thing I ever saw (except for when I get married).

My answers for the science packet:

Explain how a global positioning system works:
A global positioning system works by a satellite locating the system. Then, the G.P.S sens the system a map of the area for the user to read. This in turn can give the location for where the user is looking to go.

    How accurate are G.P.S's?
G.P.S's are fairly accurate because they give a map of the place of where your going, instead of specific coordinates.

    1. I strongly agree with brian from 731 because he is giving the name of the theory that happened and it was about the supernova. jormill-733

  5. i pick core accretion. The core-accretion theory of planet formation is founded on a physical impossibility so it was bound to eventually conflict with observations, and indeed there are several observational facts that directly show that something is wrong with the theory. However, most planetary scientists are still hanging on to the theory, hoping that somebody will find a way to magically go from step 3 to step 4.

  6. there are many hypothesis about how the earth was formed. the statement that im going to answer about this theory. scientist say that in somewhere else in space there was an explosion that made the solar system. 8. The theory i chose was the one that the core accretion, works well with the formation of the terrestrial planets like Earth but has problems with giant planets. It is made by gases and they separated the planets from each other. It could be very hot by the gases.another example is the star's and it looks good .But the the star could possibly explode.
Another theory is that the formation of the planets are large. There giant planets. Approximately 4.6 billion years ago these planets were formed.
Another example is that the gravity collapsed and the planets came together. Then there was a lot of gas and it was created. It helps you understand the ways how earth was form and with that video it help. That was some ways that the planet was formed and it is all the ways

  9. Kory Williams 7-733. Hi Science teacher
The Theory on how our earth was created was the big bang in some opinion. The big bang theory is a theory on how our earth/home was formed. The theory that i choose was the theory that earth was once apart of the sun. Then the huge rock had left the sun and took about 100,000 years to cool off. Then the earth had been hit with an asteroid containing bits of water.
Since the core of the asteroid AKA earth contained lava and other substances like metal. It created a gravitational pull so that helped the water stay on the earth. Then as millions and millions f years passed by the earth had cells that grew into fish and plants. they then evolved over a couple more million years. So that then helped the earth sustain life.

One of the two theories i chose was big bang theory. The big bang theory is the prevailing cosmological model for the early development of the universe. The big bang theory occurred approximately 13.835 billion years ago. At this time, the universe was in an extremely hot and dense state and began expanding rapidly. After the initial expansion, the universe cooled sufficiently to allow energy to be converted into various subatomic particles, including protons, neutrons, and electrons.

Thousands of years passed before the first electrically neutral atoms formed. The majority of atoms that were produced by the Big Bang are hydrogen, along with helium and traces of lithium. Giant clouds of these primordial elements later coalesced through gravity to form stars and galaxies, and the heavier elements were synthesized either within stars or during supernovae.

One of my favorite theories is the protoplanet hypothesis. The protoplanet hypothesis is the earth's formation with gas and dust. Pieces of rocky material remained inner solar system. Where they can grow into planets.
Another theory is the nebular hypothesis. This hypothesis is the star were forming into planets. Growing wide and tall to convert into planets. This formation took 100,000-300,000 years to make a planet.
The reason I like the protoplanet hypothesis because it's amazing for the gases and dust to create a planet that big. But I wonder how long did it take to form it?

  12. Other scientist call this the big bang theory. scientist say that after theory past that humans existed that people worshiped the sun and that's how people started to worship the moon the other planets like mercury, saturn e.t.c.

Out of two theories I pick core accretion. The core accretion theory of planet formation is the currently accepted theory of planet formation. This works well with the formation of the terrestrial planets like Earth but has problems with giant planets. Approximately 4.6 billion years ago it formed. Core accretion is the standard model for giant planet formation. The core accretion model proposes that the formation of giant planets starts with core formation followed by gas accretion.

With the core accretion theory, planets start as small rock-ice cores that grow as they gravitationally acquire additional mass. The most commonly accepted mechanism for the formation of Jupiter-like planets is the core accretion model. In this model a rocky core forms through the coagulation of planetesimals until it is sufficiently massive to accrete a gaseous envelope. Initially this envelope is in hydrostatic equilibrium, with most of the luminosity provided by the accreting planetesimals. Once the core reaches a critical mass, however, hydrostatic equilibrium is no longer possible, and a phase of rapid gas accretion occurs.

  15. The core-accretion theory of planet formation is the currently accepted theory of planet formation, whether in our solar system's history or in a star-planet system elsewhere in the Universe. Also The accretion theory happens as a cloud of gaseous material and dust contracts under the extreme forces of gravity. Spinning mass forms a disc, probably with a bulge at the center where a warm prostate undertakes a gestation period.

  16. One of the theory's I was "Core Accretion". I chose this theory because this is a theory of the planet formation that currently accepts the planets theory. The "Core Accretion" model proposes that the formation of the giant planets starts with the core formation followed by gas.
The theory i chose was found on a physical impossibility so that it can be bounded to eventually be conflicted with observations. Most planetary scientist are mostly still hanging on to the theory. The theory works well when the formation of the terrestrial planet earth has problems with the other giant planets.

  17. one of these theories is that the earth was condensed from a huge cloud of gas and dust with the sun forming as a part of the cloud collapsed in on itself under the influence of gravity to the point where nuclear fusion could begin.the suns gravitational field attracted large amounts of material which formed a dis- shaped structure around it known as an around it , known as an accretion disc

There are many theories of how the earth is made. One of the ways are the big bang, not only the big bang made earth, it was also stated it made the universe. How the big bang was formed was by, the universe was a very small place. But the universe was forming heat and pressure (as you know, heat ans pressure makes an explosion). But there was so much heat and pressure made an explosion so huge, it made every thing expand so rapidly, 97% of the universe we know was because of the big bang theory.

There is another theory is that is also well known is.... well is doesn't necessarily has a name. Well the theory is about there was a miner planet (Earth). There was also a meteor that hit Earth. The explosion was very huge, not only that, the meteor was still in Earth, it was forming Earth. The Earth and the meteor was making a larger planet.

  19. I pick stellar metamorphosis. I am a heretic of both Big Bang and the Nebular Hypothesis. Stellar evolution is planet formation itself, a star is a new planet and a planet is an ancient star. A young planet is a "star". An old star is a "planet". Here are all the papers I have written, some more creative than others aimed at fixing this mess.

  21. 1. Global positioning system is separated into three sections; GPS ground control stations, GPS satellites, and GPS receivers. Then the ground stations send control signals to the GPS satellites.
    2. The GPS is very accurate with 21 navigation satellites in 3 different planes so that ground users can track 6 to 8 GPS at any given time.

  22. 1) It is a network of about 30 satellites that orbit the Earth. The system was developed by the USA. It was originally used for the military but now, anyone can use it The GPS sends out radio signals to the satellites. Each GPS transmits information about your location and the time. The signals, travel at the speed of light.

    2) It depends because GPS satellite sends out signals in space with accuracy, what you actually receive can change due to: satellite geometry, signal blockage, atmospheric conditions and the receiver's design features and/or quality.

  23. 1. The GPS system works by satellites, it picks up directions and tells you how to get to a place.
    2. The GPS is accurate if you are moving in areas with good satellite signals, the GPS tells you where to go and how to get there,

  24. 1.a global positioning is a network with about 30 satelites orbiting the earth at an altitude of 20,000km.
2.GPS are 95% accurate/4 meter acurancy. The minimum is 3 meters acurancy. Vertical acurancy is worse than horizantle accuracy.
